Fellow Enthusiasts,
I was elected as your clubs President late 2022, I have been some what remise in not writing to your sooner. For that I apologise.
The Leyland P76 Club of Queensland is geographically diverse and I thought an email would be the best way to connect with our membership.
By way of background, my relationship with the P76 began when I was around the age of 6.
This was during a test drive of a crystal white, Super Six 4 speed with imperial leather interior.
I still remember looking down at the near new loop pile carpet from the back seat and how big the car felt.
I am immensely proud to say that P76 is still owned by my parents and running having traveled in excess of 400,000 kilometres.
It may be a little rough, and being a six cylinder had an engine rebuilt or two, but the body structure is as straight as the day it was new and I thoroughly enjoy driving it.
I purchased my first P76 as an impoverished university student in the mid 1990's.
That vehicle, a Spanish Olive Super V8 with three speed column auto and imperial leather interior took me all over New South Wales, Victoria and the ACT.
It did require an engine rebuild following a rather enthusiastic acceleration manoeuvre to avoid a collision with a Sydney rubbish truck, however, it never let me down and I was always confident it would get me to where I needed to go.
I no longer have the Spanish Olive P76, however in early 2020 I purchased a near original Corinthian Blue Executive with Antique Parchment interior, from a member of the ACT P76 Club.
As the third owner of that vehicle, it is a little hard to know exactly how far it has travelled.
As far as I can ascertain, it has never had an engine nor transmission rebuilt and runs very well.
Like all P76 owners, our association with the vehicle is long and varied.
If there is one observation I can make, the vehicles association with those who see the vehicles for what they truely are is enduring.
To state the obvious, the demise of the Australian car industry was a very sad day and one a long time in the making.
On a positive note, clubs like ours are a great resource for maintaining a wonderful peace of Australian motoring history and the joy that it is to drive the Leyland P76.
My father, brother-in-law, son and I will be attending Parkes at Easter with our two P's.
I hope to see as many of your there as possible.
I welcome contact from all club members via this email address or via phone on 0407 496581.
A strong and enduring club relies on its membership to engage and contribute.
I encourage you to reach out and provide feedback on what the club is doing well and where improvements can be made.
I would particularly like to hear from club members outside of SE Queensland and ways our club can support your membership.
I have attached a set of the club rules.
These are a set of model rules as suggested by the Queensland Department of Fair Trading and were adopted upon our clubs incorporation in 2008.
They are designed to ensure proper governance and accountability in the management of the club.
I encourage you to read this document and to reach out if you have any comments or questions.
Thank you for taking the time to read a little about myself.
I very much look forward to meeting as many of you as possible and serving our club.
Kind regards
Christian
President
QLD P76 Owners Club Inc.
